ADMISSION

Students who want to join ICEM begin their journey with us by taking the College Placement Test (CPT). This test is conducted for the purpose of measuring the proficiency level of students in areas required under the GFP Curriculum. These areas include English Language, Maths, IT and Study skills. The college added Science in this examination as Science is a curriculum requirement for engineering-based courses. Passing criteria for ICEM entry test to degree programs are:

• English  IELTS 5.0 equivalent (with none of the four areas of writing, speaking, listening and reading below 4.5). 

• Mathematics, Science & IT  pass with 40%.

• Candidates who do not meet the requirements for entry onto Year 1 of the Higher Education program of their choice may be recommended to enroll in the ICEM Foundation program which is specially designed to prepare students for the Higher Education programs offered by the College. The standard English requirement for entry onto the Foundation Program is an overall IELTS score of 3.0 (or equivalent). However, candidates with an IELTS score of 2.0 or 2.5 may still enter the course on condition that they attend an additional 10 hours per week of intensive English study during the first semester, in order to bring them to the standard required to progress.

• Candidates with an overall IELTS score of 4.0 or 4.5 will be able to begin at a more advanced stage and complete the Program in two semesters rather than the three.

• In addition to English, candidates must also meet minimum standards (Passing the 12th Grade) in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry.

• Candidates who are unsuccessful in gaining entry into the Foundation Program will be eligible to enroll in the ICEM Pre-Foundation Program.

EXEMPTIONS:​

Applicants will be exempted from the English component of College's placement Test if they hold the following:​

1. An IELTS score of at least 5.0 (with none of the four areas of writing, speaking, listening and reading below 4.5). Provided that the examination was done within the last two years from the time the result was shown.

2. TOEFL Paper score of 510

3. TOEFL Internet-Based Test (IBT) score of 64+

4. TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) score of 180+. TOEFL certificate dated within the last 12 months.  Note: We do not accept TOEFL Institutional Testing Program (ITP) test

5. CEFR (Common European Framework Referencing) Grade: B1

ICEM GFP Entry Exam Procedure and marking criteria:​

​

1. The PT is to be conducted via Moodle.

2. The PT is to be taken on the same day. Students will have to do the test paper first, and then the speaking test will follow according to the schedule prepared by GFP Department.

3. The PT can be done in two ways:

   • On campus at an ICEM lab, with the camera switched on and the ID card presented to the camera at the start of the PT.

   • Off campus, with the camera switched on and the ID card presented to the camera at the start of the PT.

4. Listening will be played once only.

5. The examiner will not recode the audio of the student during the speaking test.
