MODULE AIMS

Information Technology 02 Module is designed to equip students with the required computing knowledge and skills necessary for post-secondary study.

MODULE CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Examine the common features shared between the applications in Microsoft Office and explore basic techniques for working in an office application.

  2. Learn some of the basic skills required to create simple documents (including letters, reports, and a brochure) using Word.

  3. Be introducing to the basic skills for working with a spreadsheet application, including how to enter and format text and formulas, navigate and manage worksheets, filter and sort data, create and modify charts.

  4. Learn basic database concepts and learn how databases are used on the World Wide Web.

  5. Learn basic skills for working with an application designed to manage presentations, set up presentations, and create and edit slides that include text, images, charts, tables or multimedia.

  6. Learn about the nature of Internet and about the role and function of web browsers.

  7. Conduct research and evaluate the information you find on the Internet.

  8. Learn about and use various digital communication technologies.

  9. Use electronic mail and calendaring and work with contacts.

  10. Learn methods for protecting yourself against risks.

SCHEDULED LEARNING AND TEACHING ACTIVITY

Information technology will be covered by practical training which will familiarize the students with the operation of pcs, networks, the internet and application software.  Research into the meaning of common terms, standard practices and commonplace security threats will be introduced. Students will be taught by demonstration of commands and operations via projected exercises and will then be given similar exercises to practice and hone their skills.  Collaborative working will be encouraged for research activities and during classroom sessions.  Students will be expected to use online resources for research and further study.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The method of assessment for this module has been designed to test all the learning outcomes.  Students must demonstrate successful achievement of these learning outcomes to pass the module.

MODULE PASS REQUIREMENTS

  • To pass this module, students must achieve an overall grade of at least 50% or above.

  • Student must do Quiz and submit the assignment, and if he missed the quiz, he should submit a reasonable excuse within 2 days of reporting back.

  • student must achieve 50% or above for each component.

  • Student must submit assignment1 and assignment2.
