MODULE AIMS
F1 English Language Module is designed to equip students with the necessary skills to ensure that they acquire English language competency commensurate to IELTS 4 band category.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Comprehend and interpret the general meaning of texts on familiar topics, and make appropriate inferences

Preview and review to get main ideas and supporting details from simple texts, in areas of special interest or knowledge; e.g., newspaper stories, magazine articles, fiction

Extend the use of specific vocabulary related to topics of study.

Describe, orally and in writing, the physical attributes, functions and composition of objects related to topics of study; e.g., wood, plastic, fabric

Develop well-organized oral and written texts to explain problems and propose solutions.

Write three or four paragraphs on topics that have been researched and discussed in class

Paraphrase, orally, short expository texts; write one-page summaries of expository texts that include most key points within the specific time.

Express and respond to informal oral greetings and introductions, using basic, courteous language

Interact with others to exchange and clarify information about self, family, interests and experiences

Take and organize notes of medium-length academic lectures and informal listening passages using a variety of appropriate outlining techniques introduced in intermediate level text
SCHEDULED LEARNING AND TEACHING ACTIVITY
Internally developed study materials will be provided based on the required topics. Students will undertake two sessions per week combining lectures and tutorials to cover the general module content.
ASSESSMENT METHODS
The method of assessment for this module has been designed to test all the learning outcomes. Students must demonstrate successful achievement of these learning outcomes to pass the module.
MODULE PASSING REQUIREMENTS

To pass this module, students must achieve an overall grade of at least 50% or above in all components (CA, Mid-Term Exam& Final Exams).

Student must take all assessments, and if missed, they must submit a reasonable excuse within 2 days of reporting back.
